About the position

The Manager, Software Engineering at Availity is responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Availity Provider Data Platform and its key products. This role is pivotal in ensuring that both internal and external client needs are met through effective management of software engineering processes. The Manager will focus on improving customer satisfaction and relationships by instilling strong engineering practices within their team and introducing rigor in software engineering. This includes overseeing the analysis, design, engineering, and ongoing improvements of software engineering processes and operations to achieve engineering excellence. The Manager will also be responsible for debugging, modifying, and ensuring the continuous delivery of provider data software for both commercial and end-user applications. In this position, the Manager will report to the Senior Director of Provider Data Management and will have corporate functional leadership obligations. This includes hiring, supervising, and developing team members, as well as managing day-to-day team and project activities. The Manager will also be expected to carry out additional duties, projects, or activities as specified by their management. The role is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location, and emphasizes a culture of innovation and transformation within the healthcare technology sector. The ideal candidate will have a passion for coaching, developing, and mentoring teams, as well as a strong ability to solve complex technical problems. They will be expected to manage the development of products and solutions for Availity's Provider Data Platform, ensuring that business process architecture and design are aligned with ongoing support needs. This includes working directly with product teams and customers in both product and delivery capacities, managing the development, enhancement, and maintenance of code to support strategic efforts, and ensuring ongoing systems performance and integrity. The Manager will also lead and mentor multiple scrum teams, manage product pipeline development activities, and foster a developer culture that extends across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of the Availity Provider Data Platform and its key products.
  • Oversee the analysis, design, engineering, and ongoing improvements of software engineering processes.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and relationships through improved processes.
  • Instill strong engineering practices across the team and introduce rigor in software engineering.
  • Debug, modify, and ensure continuous delivery of provider data software for commercial and end-user applications.
  • Hire, supervise, and develop team members, managing day-to-day team and project activities.
  • Work directly with product and customers in both product and delivery capacities.
  • Manage the development, enhancement, and maintenance of code to support strategic efforts.
  • Lead and mentor two or more scrum teams, managing development activities for the product pipeline.
  • Establish measurable individual and team objectives aligned with business goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in managing software engineering teams.
  • Experience designing, documenting, building, and delivering complex software systems.
  • Proven experience designing and building scalable and high-performing data-centric systems and applications.
  • Experience establishing and optimizing software engineering processes.
  • Ability to launch and deliver multiple, concurrent IT projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong relationship management and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal guidance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients/vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure in an interrupt-driven environment.
  • Proven understanding of Change Management and a 'fail fast' approach.
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the Healthcare industry, particularly health care provider business data.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining cloud-based applications leveraging AWS.
  • Hands-on development experience.
  • Familiarity with on-premise and cloud data architecture patterns.
  • Versed in managing multiple data pipelines and different data file formats.
