About the position

The Manager, Software Engineering & SRE at Mastercard is responsible for leading software development and Service Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams for the globally distributed applications that power Mastercard Identity Check. This role involves setting expectations and goals for team members, managing the software development lifecycle, and driving service reliability engineering engagement to ensure the security, resiliency, and performance of applications. The position emphasizes a culture of trust, ownership, and continuous improvement in software development practices.

Responsibilities

  • Set expectations and goals for the team and individual staff members.
  • Perform performance reviews and mentor employees to support their career growth.
  • Recruit and hire talent, ensuring to bring in high-quality candidates.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Development, software architects, and technical program managers during product ideation and design.
  • Manage software development over the full SDLC using agile principles.
  • Drive service reliability engineering focusing on security, resiliency, scalability, and performance.
  • Build and optimize tools for observability and operational reliability.
  • Provide development and SRE support during production emergencies.
  • Promote an Agile approach to software development and continuous integration.
  • Collaborate across teams to mitigate risks and resolve dependencies.

Requirements

  • Experience managing large and complex software development and delivery.
  • Passion for delivering excellent customer experience through engineering and operations.
  • People management experience with multiple teams and on/offshore models.
  • Ability to drive results in a dynamic corporate environment.
  • Extensive experience evaluating complex strategic initiatives and contributing to design.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound technical knowledge of software development technologies including Rest APIs and Microservices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Java/J2EE based applications.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure, networking, and cloud-based architecture (AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins, Bitbucket).
  • Familiarity with release management and code branching strategies.
