About the position

The position involves leading a team responsible for delivering high-definition, low-latency stereo surgical video for the da Vinci™ Surgical System. The role requires collaboration across various engineering disciplines to ensure the development of embedded software that meets stringent quality and safety standards. The successful candidate will manage the software engineering group, focusing on product requirements, implementation, and verification testing, while maintaining a strong commitment to customer needs and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team focused on delivering low-latency, color accurate video to all displays, including the 3D surgical viewer.
  • Deliver embedded software by organizing engineers through design, development, documentation, and product verification.
  • Work on cross-functional teams for architectural definition, implementation, and system integration.
  • Improve the video software architecture for the latest generation of surgical robotics.
  • Collaborate with teammates on next-generation endoscope and illumination technology for higher resolution video.
  • Deliver software on schedule while communicating progress and hurdles clearly.
  • Maintain high software quality through leading code reviews and advancing automated testing capabilities.
  • Diagnose and solve technical problems across the video subsystem.
  • Aid in formal risk analysis and develop software mitigations to minimize potential failures.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or related discipline; MS or PhD preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of industry experience developing C/C++ software for Linux-based embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with programming and configuration of hardware devices.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in technical leadership and/or team management.
  • Ability to inspire and work collaboratively to deliver cutting-edge products.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with all phases of the product development lifecycle.

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct experience with display technologies, display calibration, and colorimetry.
  • Knowledge of software drivers for FPGA based display interfaces (HDMI, DP, etc).
  • Experience with imaging devices and technology, e.g., image sensors, color sensors, video/graphics hardware.
  • Knowledge of image-processing, CUDA, and/or FPGA integration.
  • Experience with designing software for mission-critical applications.
