About the position

As a Manager of Software Engineering at ModivCare, you will play a pivotal role in directing the software engineering function. This includes overseeing the design, development, troubleshooting, and debugging of software programs for enhancements and new products, particularly those that are cloud-based or internet-related. You will be responsible for the development of software and tools used for design, infrastructure, and platforms, which encompass operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, and databases. Your expertise will be crucial in determining hardware compatibility and design, ensuring that all software meets or exceeds specified standards and end-user requirements. In this role, you will collaborate closely with peers to ensure that specifications across teams are well-defined and synchronized. You will work with software engineering leaders to plan sprint cycles and help translate business requirements into technical and testing specifications. Additionally, you will partner with the Development Operations team to introduce new technology into the stack, assisting with research, implementation, and integration. Your leadership will be essential in identifying, developing, and executing implementations according to organizational needs and priorities. You will lead a team of software developers, ensuring that they are well-supported and that their performance aligns with the company's goals. This includes managing and mentoring employees on performance gaps, career development opportunities, and strategies. You will also oversee human resource processes such as onboarding, performance management, and employee relations. Budget management will be part of your responsibilities, where you will analyze variances and initiate corrective actions to maximize operational performance. Overall, your role will be integral to the success of the software engineering function at ModivCare, contributing to the company's mission of connecting people with care.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the software engineering function, including design, development, troubleshooting, and debugging of software programs.
  • Oversee the development of software and tools for design, infrastructure, and platforms.
  • Determine hardware compatibility and design.
  • Collaborate with peers to ensure specifications are well-defined and synchronized.
  • Work with software engineering leaders to plan sprint cycles and translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Partner with the Development Operations team to introduce new technology into the stack.
  • Identify, develop, and execute implementations according to organizational needs and priorities.
  • Lead a team and ensure software meets or exceeds specified standards and end-user requirements.
  • Evaluate and monitor tools, methodologies, and automation for effective testing and defect identification.
  • Manage and mentor employees on performance gaps and career development opportunities.
  • Prepare and manage budget, analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or foreign degree equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Sciences, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience as a Sr. Programmer Analyst, Development Lead, Sr. Software Engineer, Application Engineer, or related occupation.
  • 2 years of technology experience.
  • 2 years of experience building IT quality strategies that address process improvements.
  • Experience interfacing with a diverse range of team members, including IT and non-IT teams.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment supporting a broad and diverse portfolio of applications.
