About the position

VIZIO's Technology - Software and Services team is seeking an Engineering Manager to join their growing Application Platform team. The Engineering Manager will oversee the work of developers, creating plans, tracking progress, and ensuring quality and timeliness. This position will report to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering and will have several direct reports distributed worldwide. The team prides itself on being collaborative, and to accomplish this, all team members are expected to be in the office five days a week in the Dallas, TX office. In this role, the Engineering Manager will take an active part in all phases of the software development process, from requirements gathering through to delivery. This includes managing the team's priorities and plans, implementing policies and processes as needed to improve throughput, quality, and visibility. The Engineering Manager will also occasionally assist with development tasks, testing, and bug triage to help the team meet release commitments, gain a deep technical understanding of the product, and maintain their technical acumen. Quality is a key focus for this position, and the Engineering Manager will meaningfully contribute to the quality of the product by holding a high bar for functional quality and overseeing the underlying design and code. The ideal candidate will have the ability to deal with conflicting priorities, excel at collaboration and negotiation, and cultivate professional relationships to achieve business objectives.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in software engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience in leading software development teams.
  • Experience with embedded systems is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Python and C / C++ is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to commit to and meet release timelines.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining multiple active versions of a product.
