About the position

As a Manager of Software Engineering at Capital One, you will play a pivotal role in leading a diverse portfolio of technology projects while managing a team of skilled developers. Your primary focus will be on creating innovative solutions that address regulatory needs through the development of distributed microservices and full stack systems. Your technical expertise will be crucial as you utilize a variety of programming languages and tools, including JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, Go, and various AWS services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, with a minimum of six years of experience, including at least one year in cloud computing and two years in people management. You will be expected to foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within your team, encouraging experimentation with new technologies and participation in both internal and external tech communities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers.
  • Create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company.
  • Share passion for staying on top of tech trends and mentoring other members of the engineering community.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 6 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply)
  • At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
  • At least 2 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree
  • 7+ years of experience in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, React Native, Node.JS
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks
  • 5+ years of people management experience
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
