About the position

Cox Automotive is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead our back-end services team for our e-dispatch and data analytics platform. This role is pivotal in driving the development of scalable, secure, and quality products that enhance our mobility ecosystem. As a Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of high-caliber Software Development Engineers who are tasked with building innovative solutions for E-dispatch, Data, and Reporting. You will work closely with architects and product managers to ensure that your team delivers on project commitments in a professional and high-paced engineering environment. In this position, you will interface with both internal and external customers to understand their requirements, set priorities, and communicate direction and progress effectively. You will own all operational metrics and support for your team's software, driving improvements in software engineering practices. Your technical expertise will be crucial as you guide your team in utilizing Java for creating a services-oriented backend, and your experience with cloud systems, particularly AWS, will be a significant asset. You will also leverage your understanding of data management and reporting to enhance our platform's capabilities. As a manager, you will bring your experience of working with distributed teams across multiple time zones, managing a mix of contractors and full-time employees. You will track work activities using Rally and SCRUM agile methodologies, ensuring that your team remains aligned and productive. Your leadership will foster a culture of mentorship and professional growth, enabling your team to thrive in their roles and contribute to the overall success of Cox Automotive.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of high caliber Software Development Engineers building solutions for E-dispatch, Data & Reporting in the mobility ecosystem.
  • Manage and execute against project plans and deliver commitments within a professional, high-paced engineering environment.
  • Interface with our internal/external customers to understand requirements, set priorities, and communicate direction and progress.
  • Own all operational metrics and support for your team's software.
  • Drive improvements in software engineering practices.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams.
  • Experience partnering with product OR program management teams.
  • 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers.
  • 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid software development background including design patterns, data structures, and test driven development.
  • Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, and navigate ambiguity.
  • A deep understanding of the software development life-cycle, and a track record of shipping software on time.
  • Experience designing software architectures for scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A passion for people management and mentorship.
