About the position

HII's Mission Technologies division is seeking a Manager of Software Test Engineering to lead a team responsible for the development of the Minotaur software at our Hanover, MD location. This position is crucial in ensuring that the software design aligns with the functional specifications and software requirements of the product. As a first-line manager, you will oversee a team of software test engineers, guiding them in their work and ensuring that the software meets the highest quality standards. You will collaborate closely with various teams, including software development, product management, and quality assurance, throughout the software development lifecycle. In this role, you will be responsible for defining team-specific strategies, setting priorities, and directing the capabilities of your team. You will delegate work assignments, monitor the quality and quantity of work in progress, and provide mentorship and training to team members. Your leadership will be essential in fostering a collaborative environment where team members can thrive and contribute effectively to the project. The Minotaur software plays a vital role in enhancing the capabilities of military operators by processing data from various sensors on manned and unmanned surveillance aircraft. This position requires a strong understanding of software quality assurance processes, as you will develop and maintain standards for software systems quality, conduct evaluations of software activities, and ensure compliance with project and contract requirements. Your expertise will help define appropriate measures to ensure product quality and facilitate the successful implementation of the software quality program.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software test engineers to verify software design meets functional specifications and requirements.
  • Collaborate with software development, product management, and quality assurance teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Define team-specific strategies, priorities, and capabilities.
  • Delegate work assignments and oversee team direction and priorities.
  • Monitor the quality and quantity of work in progress and provide mentorship to team members.
  • Develop and maintain standards for software systems quality operating methods, processes, and procedures.
  • Conduct evaluations of software systems activities including requirements, design, development, documentation, integration, test, verification, and validation.
  • Define measures to ensure product quality and compliance with project and contract requirements.

Requirements

  • 4 years of relevant progressive experience with a Bachelor's in a related field; or 2 years of relevant progressive experience with a Master's in a related field; or a High School Diploma and 8 years of relevant progressive experience.
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in software testing/development in a Linux command line environment.
  • 1 - 2 years of experience leading a software development engineer test team.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a close team environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US level Secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 2 - 4 years of experience leading test and test automation teams.
  • Experience with network communication protocols (IP, TCP, UDP, etc.).
  • Scripting experience in Python, Bash, CSH, etc.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodology.
  • Active US level Secret clearance.
