About the position

The Global Data and Analytics team at SC Johnson is seeking a Manager, Senior Data Architect to enhance its capabilities in data and analytics services and products. This role is pivotal in transforming business data into intuitive, reliable, and user-friendly formats. As part of a dedicated team, the Senior Data Architect will collaborate with both business and technology partners to strategize and develop prioritized roadmaps for a variety of analytic products. This position emphasizes a data-driven mindset, focusing on data architecture, data models, and data flows to meet the evolving needs of the organization. In this role, you will be responsible for translating business requirements and user needs into comprehensive architecture blueprints that yield cost-effective, high-performing analytics solutions. You will lead discussions with various business functions to capture data and analytical requirements, ultimately building a robust data roadmap. Your expertise will guide the definition and maintenance of best practice guidelines for data warehouse and data lake modeling methodologies, ensuring the design and development of scalable and efficient reporting and analytics solutions. You will also assess architecture, devise strategies, and create roadmaps for technologies such as Azure Synapse, Fabric, ADF, and Power BI. Facilitating cross-functional workshops will be essential to establish processes for data ingestion, validation, mining, engineering, modeling, visualization, artificial intelligence, and analytics. Collaboration with master data and data governance teams will be crucial in defining best practices for master data and metadata management, including taxonomy, master data domains, and data quality rules. Your leadership will extend to the development of normalized and star schema data models, data dictionaries, ETL mapping, and data virtualization, ensuring that data strategies are effectively translated into actionable frameworks for business analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business requirements and end user's needs into architecture blueprints for analytics solutions.
  • Lead discussions with various business functions to capture data and analytical requirements.
  • Define and maintain best practice guidelines for data warehouse/data lake modeling methodologies.
  • Provide assessments of architecture and create roadmaps for technologies like Azure Synapse, Fabric, ADF, and Power BI.
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops for data ingestion, validation, mining, engineering, modeling, visualization, and analytics.
  • Work with master data and data governance teams to define best practices for master data and metadata management.
  • Lead the development of normalized and star schema data models, data dictionaries, ETL mapping, and data virtualization.
  • Engage in design sessions, demonstrations, prototyping, testing, and training workshops with business users and IT associates.
  • Translate data strategies into data integration frameworks and reporting for business analytics.
  • Lead design and data model reviews with delivery teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Management, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in data/database design and development, including data warehouses, data lakes, and master data management systems.
  • 3+ years of experience working with Azure data platform capabilities including ADLS, Synapse, ADF, and Power BI.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Architect.
  • 5+ years of experience with data modeling skills, including strong foundation in data warehousing concepts, data normalization, dimensional data modeling, OLAP, or data vault.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with modern cloud data platforms like Microsoft Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, or Google Big Query.
  • Working knowledge of master data management systems (MDM) and experience in data warehouse and MDM integration.
  • Strong understanding of data quality management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of data governance key functional areas like MDM, data catalog, and data quality.
  • Experience working with different SAP platforms like SAP ECC, SAP PLM, S/4HANA.
