About the position

The Manager/Sr Manager of Accounting at Curative is a pivotal role aimed at transforming health insurance through innovative no deductible, no copay plans. This position is designed for a detail-oriented and driven individual who will join our Accounting department. The successful candidate will work closely with and report directly to the Director of Accounting/Controller, overseeing various aspects of accounting for our health insurance company. The role requires a solid understanding of accounting processes, particularly within the healthcare and health insurance sectors. We are looking for a highly organized professional who excels in people management and has a proven track record of process improvement. The primary goal of this position is to ensure that the accounting and financial processes of the company remain compliant with all regulatory standards while guaranteeing accurate financial reporting and control. In this role, the Manager/Sr Manager will be responsible for ensuring the proper general ledger in accordance with federal regulations, including managing intercompany transactions and charges. The candidate will analyze transactions to ensure accurate revenue recognition and ensure that provision records are allocated to the correct accounting period. Timely recording of intercompany transactions is essential, as is the establishment of policies and procedures that guarantee accurate and timely financial reporting. The Manager/Sr Manager will oversee accounting for related entities, including pharmacy, real estate, TPA, and administrative entities, and will manage month-end reconciliations and the timely close process for assigned entities and consolidation. Additionally, the candidate will research and document technical accounting issues for consolidated entities and subsidiaries, serve as a liaison to external auditors regarding Curative's accounting processes and procedures, and manage IBNR and other insurance-related reserves while collaborating with the risk management department. The role also involves driving a constant improvement strategy to enhance efficiency by improving infrastructure and automating procedures wherever possible. Establishing and maintaining internal controls is crucial, as is working with the Accounts Payable team to ensure proper identification and booking of expenses to various accounts, including medical loss for quality improvement programs. The Manager/Sr Manager will implement process efficiencies and serve as the Netsuite manager, driving improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Finally, the candidate will partner with the finance team to investigate variances between actuals and budget/forecast, along with any additional responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper general ledger commensurate with federal regulations including intercompany transactions and charges
  • Analyze transactions to ensure accurate revenue recognition and provision records to the correct accounting period
  • Ensure proper recording of intercompany transactions on a timely basis
  • Establish policies and procedures for the department to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Oversee accounting for related entities including pharmacy, real estate, TPA and administrative entities
  • Oversee month end reconciliations and timely close process for assigned entities and consolidation
  • Research and document technical accounting issues for the consolidated entities and subsidiaries
  • Serve as a liaison to external auditors on Curative accounting process and procedures
  • Manage the IBNR and other insurance related reserves and reinsurance matters, working cross functionally with the risk management department
  • Drive constant improve strategy to increase efficiency by improving infrastructure and automating procedures where possible
  • Establish and maintain internal controls
  • Work with AP to ensure proper identification and booking of expenses to various accounts including medical loss for quality improvement programs
  • Implement process efficiencies and serve as the Netsuite manager - driving improvements to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Partner with finance team to investigate variances between actuals and budget/forecast
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of comprehensive experience in healthcare accounting highly preferred
  • Proven track record of managing general ledger and subledgers
  • Start up experience preferred - must thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Healthedge/VBA or similar health insurance software experience a plus
  • ERP System Admin Experience required, Netsuite experience preferred
  • BA in Accounting, Finance, Business or other related field required, MBA preferred
  • Big four, large regional experience highly preferred
  • CPA license or in pursuit of CPA license highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting required
  • Cross functional team builder and excellent manager, strong communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Desire to learn and expand skill set
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
