About the position

RSM is seeking an experienced, energetic, and self-motivated state and local tax specialist to join our dynamic, collaborative, and expanding SALT team. The ideal candidate will help execute our strategy to deliver the RSM client experience, focusing on the middle market, empowering passionate teams, and building communities of RSM promoters. This role involves participating in one of RSM's key industry teams, which include Financial Services and Construction/Real Estate, and leading and managing the business relationship of complex engagements with a focus on high-value quality tax advice. The candidate will also seek to expand services to Investment Fund clients, serve as a Career Advisor, mentor or coach to one or more employees, and provide honest and timely performance feedback. In this position, you will advise clients on nexus, unitary and business income, multistate tax planning, audit defense, and due diligence. You will manage complex state tax compliance and consulting projects for corporate and pass-through entities, delivering excellent service to internal and external clients through effective communication, teamwork, and maintaining high professional standards. The role requires continuing to expand your knowledge base in the area of expertise and complying with continuing education requirements. You will drive growth and profitability to the Investment Fund practice by generating new revenue on the existing client portfolio, cross-selling, and acquiring new clients for the tax practice. Additionally, you will interact directly with clients, handling questions, planning, and consulting, while serving as the Tax client service coordinator and developing and executing the firm's client service plan. You will review research findings to ensure conclusions are consistent with firm policies and professional standards, build relationships across lines of business to ensure excellent client service through an integrated service approach, and manage corporate client needs with respect to tax services and state tax compliance. Staying up to date on current tax practices and changes in tax law is also a critical aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • CPA, JD, or LLM in Taxation, or Enrolled Agent certification.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing income/franchise tax consulting services in a Public Accounting, Consulting, or Law firm.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, detail oriented and excellent interpersonal skills.
