About the position

The Manager, Strategic Risk Management role at General Motors (GM) is a hybrid position that requires the successful candidate to report to either the GM Global Technical Center in Warren, MI, or the Renaissance Center in Detroit, MI, at least three times a week. This position is integral to GM's Strategic Risk Management (SRM) team, which is dedicated to proactively identifying and managing key risks that could hinder the company's ability to achieve its strategic objectives. The SRM team is looking for a bright, enthusiastic, and proactive professional to collaborate with various business partners in support of GM's global strategic risk management program. As an SRM Manager, you will lead the risk assessment process, which includes executing and analyzing corporate surveys, conducting senior leader workshops, and surveying the Board. You will be responsible for developing high-impact communications for leadership and the Board to provide updates on risk assessment results. The role also involves improving the risk assessment process and implementing methods to create a real-time risk view, potentially utilizing advanced technologies. In addition, you will provide consultative guidance to business units on risk analysis techniques and the integration of risk management practices. You will coordinate information sharing between various risk, control, and compliance functions within the business and assist in planning and leading Risk Advisory Council (RAC) meetings to communicate critical risk information across the enterprise. Facilitating risk analysis, decision support, and strategy workshops with leaders will also be part of your responsibilities. The position offers great exposure to company-wide leaders and functions, autonomy in practicing as a trusted risk management professional, and opportunities for personal and professional development. Responsibilities

  • Lead risk assessment process including executing and analyzing corporate surveys, senior leader workshops, and surveying the Board
  • Develop high-impact communications for leadership and our Board to provide risk assessment results as well as ongoing risk updates
  • Continue to improve risk assessment process and implement methods to create a real-time risk view which may include the use of advanced technologies
  • Provide consultative guidance to business units across the enterprise on risk analysis techniques, integration of risk management practices, and support on leadership report outs on top risks
  • Coordinate and ensure information sharing between the various risk, control, and compliance functions within the business
  • Assist planning and leading Risk Advisory Council (RAC) meetings to communicate critical risk information across various parts of the enterprise
  • Facilitate risk analysis, decision support and strategy workshops with leaders across the enterprise
  • Contribute effectively during crisis response reviews to ascertain drivers and root causes, with a view to improving brand and reputational resilience
  • Develop and deliver risk concept trainings as needed

Requirements

  • 10+ years of business experience with demonstrated executive presence in accounting, finance, marketing, communications, or strategy
  • Bachelor's Degree (minimum) from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting, finance, marketing, communications, or strategy
  • 2+ years of Project Management experience
  • Exposure to GM's business and/or automotive industry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Outlook, Teams & SharePoint
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and critical thinking skills
  • Strong project management, organizational and time-management skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to operate effectively under minimal supervision
  • Experience with enterprise risk management, Board communications and/or business strategy

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree with a major in accounting, finance, business administration, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically agitate discussions
  • Experience with data analytics and ability to draw simple conclusions from complex data sets
