About the position

Random House is seeking a dynamic and extensively experienced Manager of Subsidiary Rights to join our team. This role involves submissions for front list titles for all Random House imprints, and negotiating domestic and foreign licenses. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, be personable with exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and capable of handling delicate negotiations and pitches with minimal supervision. Founded in 1925, Random House is the proud publishing house of many of the world's most acclaimed storytellers, thought leaders, and innovators. Our host of imprints publish original fiction and nonfiction in all formats with the mission to entertain, educate, and inspire readers for generations, some of our authors include, Maya Angelou, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Glennon Doyle, Taylor Jenkins Reid, George R. R. Martin, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Ann Napolitano, Trevor Noah, Jodi Picoult, Curtis Sittenfeld, Elizabeth Strout, and Jia Tolentino. This hybrid position has in-office responsibilities, including but not limited to: attending meetings with internal and external collaborators, and other essential duties as necessary. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the surrounding areas (NY, NJ, CT, & PA).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the submission process for subsidiary rights.
  • Negotiate and secure domestic and foreign licenses across all Random House imprints.
  • Collaborate with various departments especially editorial to ensure smooth execution of subsidiary rights deals and provide rights intel when asked.
  • Prepare and present rights guides for meetings with foreign publishers and editors.
  • Maintain accurate records and track rights submissions using File Maker Pro.
  • Analyze market trends and identify new opportunities for rights sales.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in selling subsidiary rights.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher).
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat, SAP, and BOX.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Personable and able to build strong relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
