About the position

The Manager of Surgical Business Operations at Advocate Aurora Health plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial management of surgical services within the Physician Services Area (PSA). This position is responsible for performing monthly variance reporting for revenue and expenses, ensuring that any discrepancies are addressed and rectified promptly. The manager will collaborate closely with the Director of Business Operations on justifications for new equipment, instrumentation, and technology, as well as conducting pro formas and feasibility studies to assess the viability of new initiatives. Additionally, the role involves partnering with PSA leadership to develop operational, strategic, and capital budgets, identifying areas of variation in physician preference items and supply utilization, and understanding their impact on cost management and quality/safety performance. The manager will also review financial responsibilities to ensure that proper pricing and billing processes are implemented in accordance with Advocate's financial control policies and corporate compliance guidelines. This includes following up with supply chain partners as necessary. Utilizing advanced data analytics skills, the manager will process complex datasets to construct and maintain PSA dashboards, volume reports, scorecards, and potential physician scorecards. High-level analysis summaries of data will be provided to PSA leadership, highlighting potential areas of opportunity. Monitoring key result areas related to finance and surgery scheduling is essential, as is ensuring the integrity of data for published reports. In addition to financial oversight, the manager will be involved in planning, developing, and assisting in the implementation of new surgical services and programs across the PSA. Financial analysis will be conducted to substantiate the viability of new services, including reimbursement potential and operational costs. The role also includes participation in the strategic development of programmatic institutes within the PSA, collaborating with business development and decision support teams. The manager will review the profitability of current services and programs, making recommendations for optimization and developing opportunities to align best practices across the PSA. Continuous professional growth is encouraged, and the manager will participate in operational governance for financial and customer growth opportunities. Human resources responsibilities include interviewing and selecting new employees, promoting staff development, conducting performance evaluations, managing compensation changes, resolving employee concerns, and maintaining overall employee morale. The manager will also develop and recommend operating and capital budgets, controlling expenditures within approved budget objectives, while adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and ensuring compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and laws.

Requirements

  • Master's degree preferred or relevant work experience.
  • 3-5 years of operations experience, such as project management, consulting, or data analysis.
  • Surgical or procedural experience preferred.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency with data analytics.
  • Consulting and/or project management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare finance.
