About the position
The Manager of Surgical Services RN is responsible for overseeing clinical activities within the surgical unit, ensuring high-quality patient care, and managing staff effectively. This role involves advising the Department Director on patient care status, budgetary needs, and quality improvement processes while anticipating future departmental needs to enhance patient care quality.
Responsibilities
- Administer, analyze, and appraise patient care within the Department.
- Advise the Department Director on patient care status and budgetary projections.
- Anticipate and estimate future needs of the Department to improve quality of patient care.
- Oversee the operation of clinical activities within the unit.
- Demonstrate advanced clinical skills and support others in delivering quality care.
- Exhibit interpersonal skills and competency in leadership, supervision, and management of staff.
- Integrate Quality Improvement processes into patient care delivery.
- Plan, organize, and manage personnel resources effectively and cost-efficiently.
- Maintain an environment supportive of quality patient care through effective resource use.
- Develop and prepare subordinates and self for changes and improvements in the nursing unit.
- Supervise and participate in the evaluation process of employees within the unit.
- Control costs without compromising patient safety or quality of care.
- Report potential patient safety issues using the occurrence reporting system.
- Attend in-service presentations and complete all mandatory education requirements.
Requirements
- Must be a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Must have recent acute care RN hospital surgical services leadership experience (2+ years as Charge RN or Assistant Nurse Manager preferred).
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Must have Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification.
