About the position

The Manager of Technical Accounting will lead the Operational Accounting team, overseeing general ledger operations and serving as an accounting expert for internal business units. This role focuses on delivering process improvements, managing risk, and developing talent strategies while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The position requires strong leadership skills to guide the team in achieving operational efficiency and aligning with corporate goals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage group operations and oversee accounting activities for the company's general ledger and financial statements.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of financial statements and general ledger structure.
  • Collaborate across the enterprise for timely and accurate transaction recording and analytical review.
  • Supervise the monthly closing process and related activities, including forecasts and entry approvals.
  • Coordinate with the Accounting Policy team to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure timely completion of daily and monthly reconciliations, addressing aged un-reconciled amounts.
  • Coordinate with Product Optimization and Corporate System teams for general ledger interface activities.
  • Handle requests from auditors and regulators, including follow-up requests.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and liaison for internal business partners and external contacts.
  • Research and analyze complex accounting transactions and provide guidance to business partners.
  • Direct internal business partners in maintaining financial reporting and information systems.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding financial results and complex accounting transactions.
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to key controls, reviewing for necessary changes.
  • Facilitate process improvements and collaborate on financial systems development.
  • Manage corporate projects affecting the GL and financials, providing communication support to stakeholders.
  • Perform managerial supervision and establish team goals aligned with departmental objectives.
  • Identify and onboard the right talent for the team, ensuring a positive experience.
  • Develop and execute a talent strategy for performance measurement and feedback.
  • Assist with budget requirements and contribute to forecasting and AFP preparation.
  • Monitor major project statuses and provide updates to leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in financial accounting and management, including analysis and reporting techniques.
  • Prior supervisory experience in financial reporting/general ledger areas with strong leadership skills.
  • CPA and CECL experience required.
  • Experience in progressively responsible positions in a corporate environment.
  • Ability to lead a team and develop talent strategies for career advancement.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for presenting complex financial information.
  • Proficient in resolving conflicting requests and maintaining accuracy under deadlines.
  • Extensive experience in researching and applying GAAP and Accounting Standard Codifications.
  • Experience initiating and managing change within an organization.
  • Prior public accounting experience (e.g., Audit, Advisory, Consulting).
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and ERP implementation.
  • Knowledge of NCUA policies and their application to organizational operations.
