About the position

Lemonade is seeking a Manager of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting to play a crucial role in driving the quarterly SEC reporting process and providing technical accounting support to the team. This position is integral to the external reporting process, focusing on enhancing, implementing, and managing periodic SEC reporting. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the team with all accounting policy work, which includes researching and applying the appropriate accounting standards such as US GAAP, US Statutory, and IFRS, as well as documenting accounting conclusions for non-routine transactions. In this role, the Manager will oversee the preparation and timely completion of SEC quarterly and annual reports, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q, along with other SEC forms like Form 8-K and proxy statements. The position requires coordination with the team on all footnote disclosures, ensuring compliance with required disclosures by completing the GAAP and SEC disclosure checklists. The Manager will maintain timelines and monitor the progress of tasks and deliverables against reporting milestones. Additionally, the role involves performing technical accounting research and assisting in responding to technical accounting inquiries. The Manager will prepare technical accounting memos supporting significant and non-routine transactions, monitor new accounting standards, and participate in the interpretation, analysis, and documentation of the financial statement impact of any new accounting standards applicable to the company. The position also includes assisting in the establishment, documentation, and maintenance of accounting policy documentation, particularly for certain SOX financial reporting controls.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation and timely completion of SEC quarterly and annual reports (Forms 10-K and 10-Q), as well as other SEC forms (Form 8-K and proxy statement)
  • Prepare and/or coordinate with the team on all footnote disclosures, including completing the GAAP and SEC disclosure checklists to ensure compliance with required disclosures
  • Maintain timeline and monitor progress of tasks and deliverables against the reporting milestones
  • Perform technical accounting research and assist in responding to technical accounting inquiries and/or preparation of technical accounting memos supporting significant and/or non-routine transactions
  • Monitor new accounting standards and participate in the interpretation, analysis, and documentation of the financial statement impact of any new accounting standards applicable to the company
  • Assist in the establishment, documentation, and maintenance of accounting policy documentation, including maintenance of documentation for certain SOX financial reporting controls

Requirements

  • 7+ years mix of Big 4 audit or advisory, and corporate experience working on public companies
  • Strong technical accounting skills regarding US GAAP and knowledge of SEC rules (working knowledge of US statutory accounting and IFRS for property and casualty insurance companies is a plus)
  • B.S. in Accounting or equivalent experience; CPA preferred
  • Experience researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions
  • Strong project management skills to ensure compliance with reporting timeline and prompt delivery of internal and external deliverables
  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaborating with internal teams at multiple levels in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in an office environment 2 to 3 days a week
