About the position

The Manager - Technical Projects position at Avangrid Service Company is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the business technical aspects of the New York Integrated Energy Data Resource (IEDR) platform solution. This includes managing the associated Data Access Framework (DAF) Order requirements for NYSEG and RG&E. The project team is tasked with developing, designing, implementing, testing, and commissioning the technology solution for the NY IEDR statewide data sharing platform, with critical phases set to be completed by July 2023 and December 2026. The role requires collaboration with various business unit team members and functional leaders across the enterprise to ensure the successful execution of the IEDR Order. The position reports directly to the Senior Manager of Technical Projects and focuses initially on NYSEG and RG&E. The manager will support strategic direction and initiate action plans to achieve project goals. This includes managing project management requirements such as Capital and OpEx budgets, securing necessary approvals, and ensuring compliance with accounting requirements. The role may also involve occasional travel to support project deliverables and team engagement. Key responsibilities include managing the Data Strategy, Governance, and Processes Office, acting as the business technical lead for the IEDR implementation team, and ensuring effective collaboration and problem-solving among team members. The manager will also be responsible for financial planning, KPI tracking, risk management reporting, and maintaining quality control standards. Additionally, the role involves supporting the transfer of customer data while ensuring the protection of personally identifiable information (PII) and other sensitive data. Regular briefings and status reports will be provided to executives, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to keep them informed of project progress and challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the Data Strategy, Governance and Processes Office for the NY IEDR implementation team.
  • Support and execute project management business requirements including Capital and OpEx budgets.
  • Act as the internal leadership face for the business technical requirements.
  • Resource the IEDR implementation project and manage financial planning and KPI tracking.
  • Support deliverables from IEDR and DAF external working teams, ensuring alignment with technical solutions.
  • Resolve critical path and strategic issues related to data assessments and migrations.
  • Support project objectives for cost benefits and operational integration.
  • Provide briefings and status reports to executives and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate efforts of cross-functional project teams and hold regular status meetings.
  • Prepare business cases, regulatory documents, and manage stakeholder communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years working in a regulated utility environment with direct experience in business project management.
  • Experience leading enterprise multi-utility, cross-functional, and cross-cultural teams.
  • Knowledge and experience navigating the procurement process.
  • Experience with establishing project accounting for cost recovery.
  • Experience with SAP for financial budgeting and tracking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Project, Visio, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Experience managing customer-related data such as billing and metering data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Change Management, PMP and/or Lean Six Sigma Certification(s).
  • Knowledge of Information Technology design, architecture, and data virtualization.
