About the position

The Manager - Technical Projects position at Avangrid is a pivotal role responsible for managing the business technical aspects of the New York Integrated Energy Data Resource (IEDR) platform solution. This position involves overseeing the development, design, implementation, testing, and commissioning of the technology solution for NYSEG and RG&E, as defined in the IEDR Order to Case #20-M-0082. The project is divided into two phases, with Phase I expected to be completed prior to July 2023 and Phase II by December 2026. The role requires collaboration with various business unit team members and functional leaders across the enterprise to ensure successful project execution and alignment with strategic goals. As the Business Technical lead in the IEDR implementation team, the manager will focus on key Data Governance skills and will be responsible for managing all aspects of Data Strategy, Governance, and Processes. This includes supporting and executing project management business requirements, managing Capital and OpEx budgets, securing necessary approvals, and ensuring compliance with accounting requirements. The manager will also act as the internal leadership face for business technical requirements, advocating for appropriate positions and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders. The role requires a strong focus on project deliverables, including regulatory filings, implementation plans, and collaboration with internal teams such as Regulatory, cyber & data security, IT, and Customer Service. The manager will support the resolution of critical path and strategic issues, ensuring timely completion of data assessments, use case development, and data migrations. Additionally, the position involves monitoring progress against project plans, providing briefings and status reports to executives and regulatory agencies, and coordinating efforts of cross-functional project teams. The manager will also be responsible for change management and successful integration of associated technologies, ensuring operational integration and alignment with business processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the Data Strategy, Governance and Processes Office for the NY IEDR implementation team.
  • Support and execute on all project management business requirements including Capital and OpEx budgets.
  • Act as the internal leadership face for the Business technical requirements advocating appropriate positions.
  • Responsible for resourcing IEDR implementation project, financial planning, and KPI tracking.
  • Support all deliverables coming out of IEDR and DAF external working teams.
  • Resolve critical path and strategic issues including data assessments and use case development.
  • Support the transfer of customer data to the IEDR implementation team while maintaining PII.
  • Provide briefings and status reports for AVANGRID and Iberdrola executives and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate efforts of business cross-functional project teams and hold regular status meetings.
  • Prepare business cases, regulatory documents, and manage successful implementation tracking.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years working in a regulated utility environment with direct experience in business project management.
  • Experience leading enterprise multi-utility, cross-functional, and cross-cultural teams in a gas and electric utility.
  • Knowledge and experience navigating the procurement process.
  • Experience with SAP for financial budgeting, forecasting, and tracking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Project, Visio, SharePoint, and Teams).
  • Experience managing customer-related data such as billing and metering data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Change Management, PMP and/or Lean Six Sigma Certification(s).
  • Knowledge of Information Technology design, architecture, and data virtualization.
