About the position

The Territory Sales Manager is an individual contributor role that focuses on territory management and basic technical responsibilities within Summit Materials, a leading construction materials company. This position is crucial for developing and sustaining a business strategy aimed at gaining or protecting market share for accounts in the designated territory. The Territory Sales Manager will provide essential technical services to Summit/Argos customers, lead marketing and sales efforts, and monitor the quality and performance of both Summit/Argos and competitive products in the territory. The role emphasizes the importance of maintaining a good standing in the community, ensuring sustainable operations, and adhering to all company policies, safety standards, and federal/state regulations. Candidates from Minneapolis, MN, and surrounding areas will also be considered for this position. In this role, the Territory Sales Manager will create clear business strategies for each account, focusing on increasing market share, account penetration, and protecting the existing customer base. The manager will develop realistic revenue and product goals, identify and understand the competitive landscape, and implement district strategies to maximize account potential. A significant part of the role involves promoting Argos products, particularly in the masonry and stucco segments, while providing basic technical assistance to address product and service issues. The manager will gather intelligence on customers and competitors, maintain a succession pipeline of potential customers, and strengthen customer relationships through training and education. Additionally, the Territory Sales Manager will participate in trade associations, highlight innovation and product development opportunities, and develop an effective call planning system to ensure adequate coverage. The role requires managing working capital goals, understanding how to deliver value to customers, and utilizing Summit and Argos systems for accurate forecasting and reporting. Responsibilities

  • Creates clear business strategy for each account (e.g. increase share, account penetration, protect existing base, etc.)
  • Develops revenue and product goals which are realistic and achievable
  • Identifies and understands competitive landscape
  • Develops plans to maximize potential of accounts, uses good account management practices, implements District Strategies (i.e. price attainment)
  • Promotes the use of Argos products in the territory, with an emphasis on the masonry and stucco segments
  • Provides basic technical assistance and utilizes resources as needed to satisfy product and service issues with regards to masonry and stucco trouble shooting
  • Gathers territory intelligence on all customers, competitors, and potential customers and maintains a realistic succession pipeline of customers that can be sold if other volumes are lost
  • Develops, maintains and strengthens customer relationships and provides training and education to customers
  • Participates actively in trade associations as requested
  • Highlights innovation and product development opportunities via Ideaxion
  • Develops an effective call planning system to ensure adequate coverage
  • Manage working capital goals via meeting DSO and SG&A objectives
  • Understands how to deliver value to customers - with a key emphasis on the package channel
  • Utilize Summit and Argos systems to maintain accurate forecasts, pricing, expense, and future CRM reporting
  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, or a related field is required
  • 3-5 years sales experience in building materials supply or associated industries - prefer geographic / territory understanding
  • Proactive, organized, results-oriented self-starter with a high level of energy and drive
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and during face-to-face interaction
  • Strong presentation, training, and computer skills with analytical and conceptual capacities
  • Knowledge of segment based marketing methods
  • Possess entrepreneurial skills and business acumen
  • Residence within the sales territory required
  • Ability to travel as needed to meet with customers and attend business unit and district meetings
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen
