About the position

The Manager of Tissue Services is responsible for overseeing tissue and eye procurement activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and guiding the Tissue Services staff towards achieving the mission and goals of the Midwest Transplant Network (MTN). This role involves administrative and clinical oversight, staff training and development, and maintaining professional relationships with various stakeholders to support tissue recovery operations.

Responsibilities

  • Guide designated Tissue Services staff towards accomplishment of MTNs Mission and goals by providing oversight and guidance with scheduling, training and development, coaching and counseling.
  • Direct work planning, approve call schedules, time accounting and PTO requests, ensuring compliance with established policies.
  • Serve as a mentor to new staff by coordinating and participating in orientation, onboarding and regular meetings to assess progress.
  • Assess and guide performance of assigned staff through interactions when functioning as administrator on call.
  • Collaborate with Tissue Services leadership for staff selection, performance reviews, salary and promotional recommendations and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of FDA, AATB and Processor regulations/standards/SOPs.
  • Participate in audits of Tissue Services by outside agencies as requested.
  • Work closely with the Director, Tissue Services to develop and maintain Tissue Department policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional relationships and rapport with management, medical nursing, and ancillary staff within and outside of the organization.
  • Promote the Mission, behavioral competencies and goals of MTN at all times.
  • Provide information and interact with MTN leadership on tissue procurement issues to maintain a high level of service and support.
  • Responsible for clinical oversight of tissue activities including mentoring tissue procurement staff.
  • Work closely with the Tissue Services Clinical Educator and Corporate Education team to ensure timely, accurate and well-documented training of all staff members.
  • Provide oversight of clinical training and maintain administrative call responsibilities.
  • Evaluate staff clinical performance through regular case participation and involvement, recommending additional training or improvement plans as necessary.
  • Maintain expert proficiency in all aspects of the tissue recovery process.
  • Ensure relationships are maintained with funeral homes and medical examiners to ensure smooth donation process.
  • Support recovery suite operations and upkeep, including supplies, cleaning and repairs.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in biological sciences or allied health or equivalent education and experience required.
  • CTBS certification required.
  • Three or more years experience as a TPC or equivalent OPO/Industry experience required.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and participate in 24-hour call.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively; good problem-solving and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  • Ability to operate telephones, computers and surgical equipment.
  • Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information in person or by phone.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.
