Manager Trainee

About the position

The Manager Trainee position at J.B. Hunt is designed for individuals looking to develop their management skills within the supply chain and logistics sector. Under general supervision, the trainee will learn to manage a small driver count, ensuring safe and timely service movement of freight while providing exceptional customer service. The role involves compliance with DOT regulations and requires flexibility in working hours, including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Learn to build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and outside carriers.
• Fill in for absent personnel and assist with special projects related to fleet operations.
• Utilize personnel management for training and orientation of drivers and employees.
• Maximize efficiency of fleet operations and profitability, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Gain knowledge on managing inventory, assets, and customer pools.
• Perform administrative duties such as payroll management and resolving pay issues.
• Manage yard operations, including equipment inspections and maintenance coordination.
• Work with drivers and customers to resolve service issues and mechanical problems.
• Maintain the company's safety culture and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
• Assign loads and monitor freight movement to meet customer requirements.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED with up to 4 years of equivalent education, experience, and training.
• Currently enrolled in a degree program with up to 2 years of equivalent education, experience, and training.
• Bachelor's degree with the ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and weekends.
