The Manager Trainee position at J.B. The Manager Trainee will work closely with both internal and external contacts to facilitate accurate planning, routing, monitoring, and delivery of freight and loads. The position requires flexibility, as the trainee must be open to relocation after the training period. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including building and maintaining positive professional relationships with drivers and outside carriers, optimizing fleet operations, and achieving profitability. The trainee will also learn to manage inventory, assets, and customer pools, as well as perform essential administrative duties such as payroll management, driver counseling, and financial reporting. Additionally, the trainee will be involved in maintaining the company's safety culture, ensuring compliance with safety requirements, and managing freight movement to meet customer expectations. Responsibilities

  • Learn to build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and outside carriers.
  • Fill in for absent personnel and work on special projects related to fleet operations.
  • Utilize personnel management for training and orientation of drivers and employees.
  • Maximize efficiency of fleet operations and profitability, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage inventory, assets, and assignment of drivers to balance equipment in the market.
  • Perform administrative duties such as payroll management and financial reporting.
  • Manage yard operations, including equipment inspection and maintenance coordination.
  • Work with drivers and customers to resolve service issues and mechanical problems.
  • Maintain the company's safety culture and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Assign loads and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on-time service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED with up to 4 years of equivalent education, experience, and training.
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program with up to 2 years of equivalent education, experience, and training.
  • Bachelor's degree with the ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree plus 1 year of equivalent education, experience, and training.
