About the position

The Manager, US Accounting Policy at BMO Financial Group is responsible for ensuring compliance with accounting regulations for high-risk and complex transactions. This role involves advising on accounting guidelines, providing insights on significant transactions, and supporting the development of financial statements that meet regulatory requirements. The position requires building effective relationships with stakeholders and conducting independent technical accounting research to inform strategic decisions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance of high-risk/complex accounting transactions with accounting regulations.
• Advise on accounting guidelines and policy strategies.
• Provide value-added ideas and recommendations to improve accounting quality and effectiveness.
• Guide on significant and complex transactions impacting the business.
• Conduct independent technical accounting research and analysis.
• Monitor new accounting standards and analyze their impacts on policy and standards.
• Prepare reports on accounting policy matters for senior management and regulatory bodies.
• Support the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Assist in the development of financial statements and disclosure documents.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
• CPA preferred.
• Typically between 4 - 7 years of relevant experience in CPA firm and/or financial institution.
• Deep knowledge and technical proficiency of US GAAP; familiarity with IFRS is helpful.
