About the position

The Manager of Virtual Nursing is responsible for leading a specified nursing area, overseeing patient care activities, unit operations, and staff development. This role requires 24-hour accountability for patient care, promoting evidence-based practices, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. The manager will also handle recruitment, performance appraisals, budget management, and operational planning to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and promote evidence-based practice and research among unit leaders and staff.
  • Promote best practice implementation on the unit.
  • Work independently with limited direction from the nurse executive.
  • Utilize effective delegation skills.
  • Direct recruitment and retention activities on the unit.
  • Conduct performance appraisal processes.
  • Direct healthcare members in delivering safe and effective patient care.
  • Operate the unit within the approved budget.
  • Facilitate efficient operation of unit activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of documentation requirements for employees' files and patients' records.
  • Administer nursing care to patients, including assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating care plans.
  • Direct/provide emergency support measures as needed.
  • Develop an annual operational plan integrated with Mercy's strategic plan.
  • Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures guiding assigned services.
  • Maintain departmental staffing plans and ensure compliance with staffing requirements.
  • Continuously assess and improve departmental performance based on quality plans and satisfaction data.
  • Supervise assigned management staff and provide necessary education and support.
  • Develop annual operating and capital budgets, monitor performance, and implement corrective plans.
  • Ensure competent patient care by obtaining and interpreting data and adapting procedures as necessary.
  • Support and abide by all Mercy policies, including safety policies and practices.
  • Participate in national professional organizations to ensure current knowledge of operations.
  • Maintain open communication with staff, physicians, and other departments.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing standards, practices, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and staffing plans.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in virtual nursing or telehealth services.
  • Certification in nursing administration or leadership.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
