About the position

The Manager, Volunteer Operations at Augusta National Golf Club is a pivotal role that reports directly to the Senior Manager of Tournament Operations. This position is responsible for leading the overall strategy development and daily management of the volunteer program, ensuring a meaningful partnership between the Club and its Tournament volunteers. The Manager will maintain the highest level of confidentiality while managing all aspects of the volunteer program, which includes staffing for major events such as the Masters Tournament, Augusta National Women's Amateur, and Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals. In this role, the Manager will oversee the recruitment and volunteer life cycle, ensuring that all volunteers are effectively integrated into the operations of the tournaments. This includes managing the internal requisition process for volunteers and vendors, maintaining the ANGC database for accurate volunteer profiles, and developing policies and procedures that govern volunteer operations. The Manager will also be responsible for creating a published operational manual for volunteers and will serve as the primary point of contact for all volunteer communications throughout the year. Additionally, the Manager will support various Committees with logistics and supply ordering, manage post-Tournament surveys to gather feedback for improvements, and coordinate Appreciation Week activities for volunteers. The role requires collaboration with all Committees to ensure shared objectives are met, as well as the organization of pre-Tournament training and uniform distribution. The Manager will also have fiduciary responsibilities related to the volunteer areas of Tournament budgets and will actively seek input to make informed decisions. This position demands the ability to manage multiple processes and projects while continuously seeking efficiencies and improvements in operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead overall strategy development and daily management of the volunteer program.
  • Manage all aspects of the volunteer program to ensure appropriate staffing levels for major tournaments.
  • Execute and continuously improve the recruitment and volunteer life cycle.
  • Manage the internal requisition process for all volunteers and vendors supporting Tournament Operations.
  • Maintain the ANGC database for accurate volunteer profiles, registration, and uniform orders.
  • Develop policies, procedures, benefits, and standards for all volunteers.
  • Evaluate current benefits and standards for consistency across all volunteer groups.
  • Create a published volunteer operational manual for all Committees.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all volunteer communications throughout the year.
  • Support Committees with logistics and ordering of supplies or equipment needed for their responsibilities.
  • Manage post-Tournament volunteer survey and follow-up on ideas for improvements.
  • Organize volunteer scheduling and coordination of service hours for consistency.
  • Collaborate with all Committees to ensure shared objectives are met.
  • Coordinate pre-Tournament volunteer training and uniform distribution.
  • Design, layout, and operate Volunteer Headquarters during the Tournament.
  • Assist with scheduling of Committee meetings, agendas, and minutes.
  • Manage temporary and/or seasonal employees supporting the volunteer program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in spectator sports event management, preferably in golf.
  • 2 years' experience in leading and managing a team of direct reports.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Publisher.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Individual planning, prioritizing, and time management skills to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Creative, resourceful, and diligent in performing repetitious tasks.
  • High attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves
