About The Position

The Managing Assistant Attorney General (MAAG) for the Criminal Justice Division's Special Projects Unit oversees significant criminal justice projects and manages a team dedicated to these initiatives. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Division Chief, Attorney General, and community partners, to enhance the effectiveness of criminal justice efforts in Washington State.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of prosecution experience.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice processes, investigations, and prosecutions.
  • Graduated from an ABA-accredited law school or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program.
  • Licensed to practice law in Washington State.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee signature criminal justice projects of the AGO and staff dedicated to those projects.
  • Supervise the supervisors of the Homicide Investigations Tracking System (HITS) and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) Cold Case teams.
  • Directly supervise the Sexual Assault Investigations Support Team and the human trafficking position.
  • Manage and complete long and short-term criminal justice projects as directed by the Attorney General or Division Chief.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Washington State's criminal justice system and related issues.
  • Draft analysis for proposed legislation impacting the criminal justice system.
  • Report progress on projects to the Division Chief and/or the Administration Division.
