About the position

The Managing Account Executive (MAE) for Northfield Excess & Surplus (E&S) Brokerage plays a pivotal role in partnering with wholesale brokers to provide primary property and general liability coverage tailored to meet customer needs. This position is responsible for managing a small team of Account Executives who handle renewals for Casualty & Property, ensuring the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business that primarily consists of moderate to highly complex accounts. The MAE must be decisive and detail-oriented, possessing the ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally to drive results. In this role, the MAE will underwrite and skillfully negotiate complex customer accounts, aiming to minimize risk while maximizing profitability. The position requires cultivating and maintaining relationships with internal partners across the enterprise to create effective sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities. Additionally, the MAE will regularly meet with external partners, specifically wholesale brokers, to market and sell Travelers products, with the goal of writing and retaining accounts that align with the company's risk appetite. The role also involves identifying and capturing new business opportunities through consultative marketing and sales skills, as well as developing and executing agency sales plans in collaboration with leadership. Coaching, training, and performance management of the assigned team are also key responsibilities of the MAE, ensuring that the team is equipped to meet the demands of the market and the expectations of the company. This position is integral to the success of Travelers in the E&S market, contributing to the overall profitability and growth of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business while leading a small team of Account Executives.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting with wholesale brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Independently develop and execute agency sales plans and partner with leadership to develop region/group sales plans.
  • Coach, train, and manage the performance of the assigned team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six to eight years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in E&S lines.
  • Deep knowledge of E&S products and the local insurance market.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with agents and brokers.
  • Experience leading others is a plus.
  • CPCU designation.
  • Four years of underwriting experience.
