About the position

The Managing Director of Academics for Elementary Schools at YES Prep Public Schools is a senior leadership role responsible for designing and implementing the academic vision across elementary campuses. This position aims to enhance college readiness among students by leading curriculum development, teacher training, and program management. The role requires collaboration with various teams to ensure educational equity and excellence, ultimately impacting the life trajectories of students and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the elementary academic vision and program development to increase college readiness at every grade level.
  • Align all aspects of elementary curriculum, instructional resources, assessment, and teacher development towards excellent student outcomes.
  • Consult with the Elementary Deputy Chief Program Officer on developing teachers and instructional leaders in their content knowledge.
  • Oversee a large team of content leaders across various subjects to ensure effective internal assessment systems and strong results on external assessments.
  • Manage financial, human, and content resources for the Elementary Academics team to maximize program implementation and student achievement.
  • Develop and facilitate professional development for principals, instructional leaders, and teachers aligned with academic programs and initiatives.
  • Provide high-stakes recommendations regarding changes to core programs impacting all teachers and students across YES Prep.
  • Innovate solutions to improve results across all elementary grade levels and courses offered at YES Prep.
  • Analyze assessment data to ensure adaptability in programming based on student performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in academic content in elementary education.
  • Minimum of 3 years of exemplary record of elementary (PK-5) teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated success in program management and implementation in elementary education.
  • Ability to create and manage large scale projects in a large urban school district.
  • Strength in enrolling others to build cross-functional solutions to complex problems.
  • Skill in quickly analyzing data, identifying trends, and drawing conclusions.
  • Knowledge in curricular design and ability to communicate shifts in standards and pedagogy.
  • Exceptional self-awareness, self-management, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work outside of normal hours and on weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or related field.
  • ESL Certification.
  • Bilingual - Spanish or other language.
