About the position

KIPP TEAM and Family is driving towards operating 40+ schools by 2033, serving 24,000 students. The Managing Director of Growth will play an integral role in this endeavor and will support KIPP's growth to new regions as well as expansion in existing cities. The Managing Director will be responsible for all elements of a successful launch, including exploring new geographies for growth, conducting due diligence on potential geographies, fundraising, community support-building, future campus site selection and acquisition, and resource creation. The director will lead this work in new communities prior to the hire of a regional leadership team, and will then work alongside the new leadership team as a partner to seamlessly transfer relationships and momentum.

Responsibilities

  • Lead growth efforts for expansion to new regions in New Jersey and Florida
  • Conduct due diligence analysis on all potential new geographies to enable informed decisions on which to pursue
  • Develop and execute plans for expansion
  • Project manage all aspects of growth plan for each new region
  • Work with internal teams to provide the necessary support to ensure a smooth launch
  • Lead efforts to secure operating agreements in each new region
  • Work with finance team to build feasible long-term financial models for each region
  • Work with real estate team to identify and vet new sites for school facilities
  • Shepherd internal process to secure approvals for growth; present to board of directors as necessary
  • Lead external advancement efforts to secure funding and build relationships to support growth
  • Identify local and community stakeholders and build a coalition of support
  • Identify potential board members and lead process to vet and court them to join local boards
  • Identify potential philanthropic opportunities to support launch to each new region
  • Work with development team to secure necessary funding for growth to each region
  • Work with MarComm team to prepare pitch decks for external audiences
  • Nurture local relationships and ensure a smooth hand-off to regional leaders once they come on board
  • Actively engage as a leader at KIPP
  • Serve as a member of the Co-President's leadership team
  • Work closely with senior leaders to ensure collaboration across teams

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • At least 10 years of professional experience, with at least two of those years in a business development or portfolio management role
  • Well-honed ability to craft external resources and presentations for multiple audiences and purposes
  • Experience developing and closing seven-figure or greater deals stretching across multiple years
  • Ability to work with realtors, local community, and various internal teams to determine and close on multiple school properties simultaneously
  • Experience working across multiple internal teams and external stakeholders towards a clear set of goals and a satisfactory deal
  • Successful experience in relationship development, building personal trust and making successful asks
  • Ability to communicate KIPP's vision, mission and results with an external audience
  • Comfort with collaboration and coordination of relationships with decision makers and influencers of organizations
  • Demonstrated capacity to take initiative and manage multiple projects with limited supervision
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented, highly entrepreneurial environment
  • Intermediate or better abilities with basic population data tools, such as the US Census; ability to manipulate data and create maps via ESRI or other tools a plus
  • Has demonstrated effective outcomes and results, and wants to be held accountable for them
  • Has a propensity for action, willing to make mistakes by doing in order to learn and improve quickly
  • Works with urgency and purpose to drive student outcomes
