About the position

At Armanino, we are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Tax Business Automation to spearhead our efforts in optimizing and standardizing tax automation processes. This role will be instrumental in developing and executing a comprehensive business automation strategy that enhances efficiency, accuracy, and compliance within the tax department by closely working with IT Automation Engineering to deliver tax automations. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of tax expertise and high-level technical acumen to successfully engage with the Automation Engineering team, enabling them to drive innovation and improve operational effectiveness through standardization of business processes and collaboration with engineering department to utilize the development of bots, the use of artificial intelligence, and the implementation of software and other automations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a robust automation strategy for the tax department aligned with organizational goals.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation across tax compliance, reporting, and planning functions.
  • Lead and influence process standardization initiatives happening across all service lines in Tax BU and help drive cross collaborative conversations for improving process efficiencies.
  • Execute the role of business owner by working with the IT Engineering team and external vendors to set the scope of automation projects in the design, test, and implementation phases of each automation development lifecycle on tax business processes that require repetitive tasks, data extraction, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with the IT Engineering team to deliver solutions that implements the benefits of robotic process automation (RPA) solutions and AI tools to streamline tax processes.
  • Act as the Business Project Manager to help drive business automations activities and tasks including identifying resources needed for testing and validation of automations projects.
  • Lead automation initiatives from the business perspective and work closely with engineering from concept to execution, managing the business timelines and business resources, and stakeholder communication.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, finance, and legal, to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Evaluate and recommend tax technology solutions, including software and tools for automation, data analytics, and reporting, partnering with the IT Engineering team.
  • Oversee the integration of automated systems with existing of new tax processes to enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Develop and implement business change management strategies to facilitate the transition to automated processes.
  • Provide training and support to tax team members on new tools and processes, including bot usage and AI applications.
  • Establish metrics to assess the effectiveness of automation initiatives and report on progress to senior management.
  • Continuously monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to identify further automation opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in public accounting in taxation or equivalent experience with a strong focus on process improvement and automation.
  • Minimum of 4 years in a managerial role involving clients and team members.
  • Proven experience in leading automation projects and managing cross-functional teams, as well as collaborating with Engineering team.
  • Strong understanding of tax compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Background in tax software and automation tools (e.g., RPA, AI platforms, data analytics).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and processes to identify automation opportunities.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience in change management.
