About the position

The Managing Director of Services Engineering at United Airlines is responsible for leading engineering teams that support the airline's global fleet of aircraft. This role focuses on driving continuous improvements in engineering processes to minimize aircraft downtime and enhance operational efficiency. The MD will collaborate cross-functionally within United's Technical Operations to resolve issues and implement strategic solutions for maintenance and reliability, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead line engineering, heavy maintenance engineering, tooling, and component repair shop engineering teams.
  • Drive continuous improvements in base and line engineering to reduce aircraft out of service time.
  • Determine engineering solutions for out of service aircraft and those in scheduled maintenance.
  • Manage AOG support with OEMs and propose solutions for fleet and business needs.
  • Develop and maintain reliability and maintenance programs balancing safety, customer experience, and economic concerns.
  • Establish aggressive goals for performance improvement and achieve desired results.
  • Evaluate ongoing analysis of non-routine findings and reliability data, providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Foster an environment that encourages learning and promotes a culture of innovation, agility, inclusion, and teamwork.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction to teams for effective maintenance and reliability programs.
  • Collaborate with key suppliers to deliver practical, on-time solutions to United Airlines.
  • Develop action plans to address specific systems and aircraft impacting operational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance requirements and reporting as per regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics.
  • 10+ years of related experience in aircraft or aerospace engineering.
  • 3+ years leading technical teams.
  • Knowledge and experience in line or base maintenance.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Apollo Root Cause analysis or equivalent
  • 15+ years of related experience
  • 5+ years leading technical teams
  • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing or repair shops.
