About the position

The Managing Director of Services Engineering at United Airlines is responsible for leading engineering teams that support the airline's global fleet of aircraft. This role focuses on driving continuous improvements in engineering processes to minimize aircraft downtime and enhance operational efficiency. The MD will collaborate cross-functionally to resolve issues and implement strategies that align with United's business needs, ensuring compliance with maintenance regulations and fostering a culture of innovation and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Lead line engineering, heavy maintenance engineering, tooling, and component repair shop engineering teams.
  • Drive continuous improvements in base and line engineering to reduce aircraft out of service time.
  • Determine engineering solutions for out of service aircraft and those in scheduled maintenance.
  • Manage AOG support with OEMs and propose solutions for fleet and business needs.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leaders on engineering performance and initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain reliability and maintenance programs balancing safety, customer experience, and economic concerns.
  • Establish aggressive goals for performance improvement and achieve desired results.
  • Evaluate non-routine findings and reliability data to recommend improvements.
  • Foster an environment that encourages learning and promotes a culture of innovation and teamwork.
  • Guide and prioritize work performed by other departments within United Airlines.
  • Collaborate with key suppliers to deliver practical, on-time solutions.
  • Develop action plans to address specific systems or aircraft impacting operational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance requirements and reporting as per regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, science, or mathematics.
  • 10+ years of related experience in engineering or aerospace.
  • 3+ years leading technical teams.
  • Knowledge and experience in aircraft or aerospace engineering.
  • Knowledge and experience in line or base maintenance.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Airframe & Powerplant license.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Apollo Root Cause analysis or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years of related experience.
  • 5+ years leading technical teams in a relevant field.
  • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing or repair shops.
