About the position

The Managing Editor at KIRO TV is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily production of editorial content in a fast-paced newsroom environment. This position involves mentoring journalists, driving innovative storytelling, and ensuring high standards for all content across digital and broadcast platforms. The Managing Editor will lead the newsroom team, manage investigative reporting, prioritize weather coverage, and recruit top journalism talent, all while fostering a culture of creativity and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Steer the daily editorial process and oversee all Content Center operations.
  • Guide and coach reporters and digital content producers in crafting compelling stories.
  • Ensure the digital presence meets high standards and achieves digital KPI targets.
  • Embrace innovative approaches and take calculated risks to drive the newsroom forward.
  • Oversee the Investigative Team to produce impactful, high-quality content.
  • Prioritize weather coverage across all platforms, integrating user-generated content.
  • Source and recruit top journalism talent to maintain industry leadership.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of large-market television newsroom experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a newsroom manager.
  • Expert writing and editing skills with a commitment to accuracy and clarity.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate strategy and feedback.
  • Proven ability to inspire and foster collaboration within a newsroom.
  • Deep understanding of editorial SEO best practices and experience with digital news operations.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
