About the position

The Managing Editor for Visuals and Immersive Experiences (ME, VEX) at Education Week is a senior-level leadership role responsible for developing and executing strategies to enhance audience engagement through innovative visual storytelling. This position leads the photography, videography, and graphics teams, collaborating with various departments to ensure that visual content effectively communicates complex educational information. The ME, VEX will also play a crucial role in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace while supporting the organization's mission to improve educational opportunities for K-12 students.

Responsibilities

• Serve as one of the Editor-in-Chief's top strategic newsroom leaders.
• Lead the editorial strategy for visual content across Education Week and EdWeek Market Brief.
• Develop and maintain familiarity with national education news and trends.
• Own the reader-centric visuals strategy across various content types and platforms.
• Lead design strategy and visual approaches for digital products.
• Partner with revenue, editorial, and technology teams to create innovative features.
• Advance the organization's data visualization efforts.
• Ensure visual consistency across platforms and products.
• Manage the VEX team, including budget and operations.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in digital visual journalism.
• 4+ years of people management experience.
• Strategic vision for design in storytelling and brand recognition.
• Strong collaboration and negotiation skills.
• Ability to balance big picture strategy with tactical details.
• Excellent supervisory and coaching skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• High initiative, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
