About the position

The Managing Editor at WTXL, an ABC affiliate in Tallahassee, Florida, is responsible for overseeing the daily editorial flow and enhancing the station's neighborhood news coverage across all platforms. This role involves managing a team of journalists, ensuring journalistic integrity, and developing comprehensive news coverage plans.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily editorial flow, including assigning multi-media journalists and photojournalists to cover news stories and events.
• Review scripts for journalistic balance across all platforms.
• Write and post stories for multiple platforms as needed.
• Assist editorial staff in developing news coverage plans.
• Post content to station websites and social media pages.
• Identify opportunities to showcase video on digital platforms.

Requirements

• BS/BA in a related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience.
• Generally, 8+ years of experience in a related field preferred.
• Prior managerial experience preferred.
• Advanced oral and written communication skills.
• Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office.
• Broad understanding of newsroom operations and equipment.
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven and effective leadership skills.
