About the position

The Manual Firmware Test Engineer role at Actalent involves supporting device hardware and firmware teams focused on smart energy metering technology. This position requires onsite presence in Alpharetta, GA, five days a week, and primarily involves manual testing (80%) with some opportunities for automated testing. The engineer will ensure data integrity and timely transmission within a Mesh network context, which includes various metering devices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for device hardware and firmware.
  • Assist manufacturing teams in resolving quality issues and stop-ship scenarios.
  • Represent support in CAPA (Corrective Action, Preventative Action) meetings.
  • Conduct in-depth root cause analysis of customer issues, documenting reasons for failures and resolutions.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Core Engineering, and other internal teams to drive quality improvements.
  • Support and adhere to the company's Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Experience in embedded Linux testing user/kernel space.
  • Experience in testing wireless communication such as RF, WiFi, or Bluetooth.
  • Experience in testing networking protocols such as IPv6, IPv4, ICMP, DHCPv6, TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet, PPP, and layer-2 (switching) or layer-3 (routing) protocols.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Strong team-player with ownership mentality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exposure to consumer networking hardware (routers, switches, wireless access points).
  • Previous lead role or mentoring experience.
  • Scripting knowledge with Python or Bash.
  • Experience with Robot Framework.
  • Experience with C/C++.
