About the position

The position involves setting up and operating a Manual Lathe with minimal assistance. The operator is responsible for validating work instructions to ensure the accuracy of operations and must be flexible and adaptable to work on both CNC and manual machines. The role requires detecting malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusting machine controls as necessary. Documentation of actions through work order routings is essential, and the operator must work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment to meet frequently changing production demands. A 100% inspection of parts is required to ensure that dimensional and surface finish requirements are met. Compliance with NOV Health Safety Environmental (HSE), HR, and Quality policies and procedures is mandatory, and the operator must wear required PPE at all times. Maintaining a clean and orderly work area and performing basic preventative maintenance is also part of the job. The operator must uphold a high standard of quality by minimizing scrap rates and must be familiar with precision measuring tools. Additional responsibilities include loading parts using overhead lifting equipment, operating controls, setting offsets, performing simple edits, and deburring. The operator is expected to facilitate objectives for Safety, Quality, Innovation, and Cost, seeking opportunities for process improvements and efficiency. Other duties may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and operate Manual Lathe with little assistance.
  • Validate work instructions before machining to assure accuracy of operations.
  • Be flexible/adaptable to work on CNC machines/manual machines.
  • Detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as required.
  • Document actions by completing work order routings.
  • Work as a team player in a demanding fast-paced environment.
  • Conduct 100% inspections to ensure dimensional and surface finish requirements are met.
  • Comply with all NOV Health Safety Environmental (HSE), HR, & Quality policies & procedures.
  • Wear required PPE safety eye protection, steel toe boots, and hard hat at all times.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance.
  • Minimize scrap rate to maintain a high standard of quality.
  • Utilize precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, thread gauges, etc.
  • Load parts utilizing overhead lifting equipment if needed.
  • Facilitate objectives for Safety, Quality, Innovation, and Cost.
  • Provide feedback on process improvements and cost savings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years machining experience, Manual Lathe experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience setting up and operating CNC Machines, grinder, drill press, hydraulic press, etc.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Vocational education (commercial or shop training; technical school).

  • Ability to transition over to CNC eventually.
