About the position

As a Manufacturing Automation Engineer at American Woodmark, you will play a crucial role in identifying, developing, and executing projects aimed at automating various manufacturing processes. This position is integral to enhancing operational efficiency and productivity across our manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Mexico. You will be responsible for understanding the operational requirements of different plants, developing tailored automation strategies, and ensuring the seamless integration of automation technologies. Your work will directly contribute to improving efficiency and reducing costs in our manufacturing operations. In this corporate role, you will collaborate closely with client plants to gather requirements and understand their specific automation needs and operational challenges. This involves conducting thorough assessments of existing systems and processes to identify potential areas for automation, including process combinations and necessary changes. You will also be tasked with project execution, which includes completing justification documents, obtaining buy-in from client sites, and engaging appropriate vendors through quoting and design processes. Managing vendor performance, coordinating design reviews, and providing on-site support during the initial startup phase will be key responsibilities. Additionally, you will manage projects to completion, leading and interacting with collaborative teams that may include Manufacturing, Materials, Quality, and other functions. Providing operations with training, documentation, and maintenance procedures will be essential to ensure the successful operation of automated equipment. Staying updated with industry trends and advancements in automation technologies will allow you to recommend and implement enhancements to existing systems, optimizing performance and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with client plants to understand their automation needs and operational challenges.

  • Manage projects to completion, leading/interacting with collaborative teams that might include Manufacturing, Materials, Quality, and other functions.
  • Provide operations with training, documentation, maintenance, and operations procedures to successfully operate equipment.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in automation technologies.
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to existing automation systems to optimize performance and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field such as robotics, automation, industrial, or manufacturing.
  • 5-7 years experience in developing and executing manufacturing automation projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design processes to meet current and future needs.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with plants, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Project management skills to coordinate and oversee automation projects from inception to completion.
