About the position

The Manufacturing Cost Engineer will analyze automotive supplier part pricing and tooling uplift requests, focusing on changes in manufacturing processes, volume impacts, and inflation. This role requires effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders to explain cost changes while managing competing agendas. The position also involves calculating a should cost and understanding the transition to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) over the next five years.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze automotive supplier part pricing and tooling uplift requests.
  • Calculate and analyze should costs.
  • Explain cost changes to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understand the impact of manufacturing process changes on costs.
  • Evaluate the effects of volume changes and inflation on pricing.
  • Operate in a grey space environment with minimal direction on multiple projects.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in estimating with manufacturing experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Technology, or Finance related fields.
  • Strong understanding of various manufacturing processes such as stamping, machining, injection molding, casting, and wire harness assembly.
  • Ability to calculate, analyze, and adjust estimates based on efficiency, floorspace, and inflation impacts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including data collection and analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with estimating software (FACTON) and company purchasing systems (SAP).
  • Familiarity with internal combustion engines and commodities related to automotive manufacturing.
  • Understanding of motors, electronics, batteries, and software related to BEVs.
