About the position

The Apple Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) is responsible for driving the development of key mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's global supply base. This role involves close collaboration with various teams, including Industrial Design and Product Design, to provide end-to-end manufacturing and process solutions for key design features. The MDE will define best-in-class processes, develop and document manufacturing processes, and lead efforts at manufacturing sites during product development and production ramp-up.

Responsibilities

• Drive the development of mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's supply base.
• Collaborate with Apple Industrial Design, Product Design, and Manufacturing Design partners.
• Define and document manufacturing processes including parameters and consumables.
• Work with Global Supply Managers to establish supply chain requirements.
• Provide leadership at manufacturing sites during product development and production ramp-up.
• Use data analysis to drive process decisions and improvements.
• Identify and qualify premier equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
• Define part tolerances and specifications based on process capability.

Requirements

• 3+ years of full-time mechanical manufacturing experience required.
• BS, MS, or PhD in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering preferred.
• Demonstrate hands-on mechanical ability.
• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with highly cosmetic parts.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment of consumer electronics or consumer plastic/sheet metal products.
• Ability to quickly learn about new processes with minimal information.
