The Apple Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) is a pivotal role responsible for leading the development and implementation of innovative manufacturing processes across Apple's global supply chain. This position is situated within a highly collaborative environment where the MDE will work closely with various teams, including Apple Industrial Design, Product Design, and Manufacturing Design partners, as well as worldwide suppliers. The MDE is empowered to infuse creativity into Apple's manufacturing approach, ensuring that the company delivers exceptional products to a broad customer base. In this role, the MDE will contribute to the creation, evaluation, and implementation of end-to-end manufacturing solutions specifically for Apple's mechanical enclosures. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders in Quality Engineering, Global Supply Management, Product Design, and Industrial Design to ensure that manufacturing solutions align with product quality, cost, yield, capacity, schedule, and environmental goals. The MDE will be expected to work with Apple's Industrial Design and Product Design teams to develop working specifications related to Titanium manufacturing processes, and to partner with premier equipment and process manufacturing partners to innovate next-generation processes while testing the limits of process capabilities. The MDE will also be responsible for determining the feasibility of achieving aggressive goals by evaluating manufacturing processes at early stages of product development. This includes planning and executing studies to confirm process capability for high-volume programs, presenting analyses to key decision-makers, and working directly with overseas manufacturers to implement solutions that meet high-volume commercial goals. Additionally, the MDE will develop and document processes, conduct process optimization experiments, and implement CNC machining, grinding, and surface finishing processes that meet challenging cosmetic and functional requirements for highly visible enclosure designs.
