About the position

The Tooling Design Engineer at Owings Patterns is responsible for designing tooling for thermoformed plastic parts and supporting production runs across various industries. This role emphasizes a solution-centric approach, focusing on customer relationships and continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Utilize Solid Works to develop models/molds and 2D drawings for tooling and mechanical parts.
• Fabricate tooling for designed thermoforming and CNC router tooling.
• Utilize CAM software to develop CNC tool paths.
• Provide technical support to the quality team and support ISO processes.
• Initiate and support the engineering change order process.
• Plan with the production team for prototype and pilot runs.
• Drive process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Demonstrate excellent project management skills through detailed planning, time management, progress tracking, team collaboration, and communication skills.
• Use of ERP system.

Requirements

• Ability to use standard 3D part and tool modeling software, such as SolidWorks.
• Ability to use CAM software, such as SurfCam or WorkNC.
• Adaptability and reliability in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of the mechanics of thermoforming and CNC router operations.
• Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Plastic injection molding and/or thermoforming tool design experience.

Nice-to-haves

• 5 years machinist experience with CAM and/or G Code programming experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) with a minimum of three years of experience, or an Associate's degree in MET with a minimum of five years of experience.
