About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer position at Taylor Machine Works, Inc. in Louisville, MS, is a critical role responsible for overseeing and enhancing the base functions of Manufacturing Engineering. The incumbent will engage in various activities aimed at improving production processes, which include but are not limited to Process and Methods development, Work Time Standard Studies, and Special Projects. The primary focus of this role is to enhance production throughput across all manufacturing processes, including parts making, burning, bending, machining, welding, straightening, and assembly of subassemblies through to complete assembly, including finishing processes. In this position, the Manufacturing Engineer will utilize a variety of tools, including computers and computer-generated reports, to analyze and improve manufacturing processes. Effective communication skills are essential for the incumbent to gather and disseminate information effectively. The role involves making recommendations based on thorough studies and assisting in the implementation of changes to improve efficiency and reduce costs. The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate closely with production supervisory personnel to plan work assignments that align with employee performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in preparing cost estimates for prototype manufacturing and facilitate design changes aimed at improving production efficiency or achieving cost savings. Safety practices are paramount, and the Manufacturing Engineer must adhere to company policies while planning and organizing their work independently. Continuous efforts to reduce costs through increased productivity are expected, making this role vital to the operational success of the manufacturing team.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct process and methods development to improve production efficiency.
  • Perform work time standard studies to evaluate and enhance productivity.
  • Engage in special projects aimed at improving manufacturing processes.
  • Investigate manpower utilization and evaluate through work measurement studies.
  • Appraise individual performance and recommend effective methods and arrangements.
  • Survey production facilities and layouts, recommending alterations and assisting in implementation.
  • Consider material flow and utilization, studying material use, storage practices, and handling procedures.
  • Recommend alternate procedures and facilitate their implementation to improve efficiency.
  • Study informational flow to ensure clarity and accuracy, recommending revisions as necessary.
  • Assist in evaluating Manufacturing Engineering practices and functions, recommending improvement steps.
  • Provide instruction and/or training as qualified.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Two or more years of work experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Training in standard Manufacturing Engineering practices, procedures, and criteria.
  • Working knowledge of metal forming and machine practices, fabricating, and assembly as they relate to heavy equipment.
  • Experience in CNC Machining and Assembly operations is preferable.
