About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for overseeing the technical development of production processes within a chemical manufacturing facility. This role focuses on maintaining and optimizing assembly lines, ensuring quality assurance, and analyzing production efficiency. The engineer plays a crucial role in driving unit performance, safety, and reliability while collaborating with various departments to achieve operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates leadership in driving a zero-incident safety culture through safe work practices and operator engagement.
  • Develop excellent, collaborative working relationships with Operations, Manufacturing, Production & Process Engineering, Reliability, Quality Assurance, Production Planning, and other support groups.
  • Design, implement, and champion best-in-class and lean/six sigma-based work processes to meet performance goals.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture through participation and guidance in cross-functional teams.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of a healthy pipeline of Six Sigma projects to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals.
  • Consistently meet all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), budgeted, and forecasted commitments.
  • Manage production plans versus Sales Order Inventory Planning to optimize inventories.
  • Function as a technical resource for key processes including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Lead Management of Change (MOC) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) as needed to drive safety and unit performance.
  • Ensure quality requirements are met consistently and represent manufacturing in determining and eliminating root causes of customer complaints.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, and Reliability to schedule and execute outages safely and efficiently.
  • Partner with the Site Engineering organization to develop cost-effective capital projects that drive KPI goals.
  • Provide support on executing technology programs that deliver breakthrough solutions to achieve entitlement performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of chemical manufacturing experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a self-directed team
  • Commitment to plant safety, environmental, and industrial hygiene practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with ESSH concepts and process improvement
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, SAP, and Minitab
  • Ability to simplify complex technical issues for upper management
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor other manufacturing engineers
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with Process Flow Diagrams and P&IDs
  • Ability to generate heat and material balances
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and plant cost economics
  • Proactive leadership and team-building skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong sense of ownership and a drive to improve existing systems and processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Six Sigma Yellow Belt, Green Belt, or Black Belt
  • Knowledge of PSM, Title V, and ISO9001
  • Provox/DeltaV based DCS System knowledge
  • Knowledge of quality systems (ISO:9001) and requirements.
