About the position

As a Manufacturing Engineer at 3M, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the safety, quality, service, and cost-effectiveness of our operations in the Decatur Internals Chemical areas. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of improvements that align with our business and strategic plans, including new process start-ups and technology integration. Your expertise will be essential in driving process development, recommending new equipment, and modifying existing systems to support cost improvements and the introduction of new materials. In this role, you will utilize your problem-solving skills to perform root cause analysis and lead cross-functional projects. Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of improvements related to safety, quality, service, and cost in the Decatur Internals Chemical areas.
  • Perform root cause analysis and apply systematic problem-solving skills.
  • Develop and implement cross-functional projects, plans, and programs in support of business and strategic plans.
  • Drive process development, recommend new equipment and modifications to support cost improvements and new material introductions.
  • Cover production runs in a 24/7 manufacturing environment as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of combined experience in product engineering, process engineering, project engineering or management in a private, public, government or military environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Seven (7) years of combined experience in product engineering, process engineering, project engineering or management, and/or quality engineering in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Training and experience in Lean methodology, statistics, SPC, DOE, and Six Sigma.
  • Green Belt/Black Belt certification.
  • Demonstrated results driving projects/initiatives related to product quality improvement, unit cost modeling, and cost reduction projects.
  • Experience leading or participating on cross-functional teams, especially across multiple sites or divisions.
  • Technical experience in batch reactor manufacturing.
