About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer at MTS Systems Corporation is responsible for developing and optimizing manufacturing processes to achieve maximum efficiency and quality standards. This role involves assessing manufacturability of new designs, providing cost estimates, and ensuring operational readiness for new product launches. The engineer will work closely with internal teams and external suppliers to resolve technical issues and drive productivity improvements through lean and six sigma methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Develops methods for manufacturing as technologies and equipment change.
• Creates and maintains process documentation in support of manufacturing changes.
• Develops cost estimates for new and updated products.
• Applies value engineering techniques to reduce manufacturing costs of existing products.
• Assesses the manufacturability of new designs in terms of efficiency and cost effectiveness.
• Provides input for make/buy decisions based on cost, quality, and capacity.
• Offers alternative manufacturing or design options to meet performance, quality, schedule, and cost requirements.
• Supports internal groups and external suppliers in resolving quality and productivity issues during all phases of the product life cycle.
• Assesses the need for capital equipment and tooling, managing procurement and implementation.
• Represents the manufacturing function on product and project development teams.
• Drives operational readiness in support of new product launches.
• Assists with the qualification of new suppliers and components by establishing requirements.
• Applies lean and six sigma methods to reduce non-value add activities and enhance productivity.
• Drives resolution of manufacturing issues to maximize production resources.

Requirements

• BS Degree in Engineering/Manufacturing
• 3-5 years of professional engineering experience
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong computer and software skills
• Ability to work with a high degree of personal discipline
• Good presentation skills
• Technical aptitude
• Willingness to provide support coverage on multiple shifts.
