About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer position in Goleta, CA, is a 12-month contract role focused on developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for spacecraft deployable mechanisms. The engineer will be responsible for creating detailed procedures and production layouts that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of assembly operations. This role requires a deep understanding of the sequence of operations and the ability to specify procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment, ensuring that all functions align with product performance standards. In addition to designing manufacturing processes, the engineer will incorporate inspection and testing requirements into the production plan, ensuring that all products meet stringent quality standards. A critical aspect of this role involves inspecting the performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency. The engineer will also investigate any issues or deficiencies that arise, initiating corrective actions to maintain product quality. Collaboration with engineering teams is essential, as the Manufacturing Engineer will provide guidance on design concepts and specification requirements. This collaboration aims to optimize the use of equipment and manufacturing techniques, ensuring that all processes and procedures comply with industry regulations and best practices. Experience with spaceflight hardware is strongly preferred, as it will significantly contribute to the success of the projects undertaken in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assembly of spacecraft deployable mechanisms.

Requirements

  • Experience in the space sector is required.
