About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer I at Abbott is responsible for supporting product development from concept through sustained manufacturing of FDA regulated products. This role involves process development, equipment acquisition, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. The engineer will work on troubleshooting equipment, conducting experiments, and implementing improvements to enhance manufacturing efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for process development, equipment specification, acquisition and implementation.
  • Identify root causes of manufacturing failures using structured problem solving and apply fixes to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Evaluate machine logic, electromechanical systems, and process controls to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Complete design of experiments, validation, testing, and analysis of data for continuous improvement activities.
  • Suggest and support new methods or materials for continual improvement of quality and efficiency.
  • Analyze current equipment for process suitability and provide detailed plans for improvement.
  • Create and revise manufacturing documents, specifications, SOPs, safety instructions, validation protocols, and risk assessments.
  • Work with other engineers and technicians to develop solutions and improvements in materials, equipment, and processes.
  • Participate in teams to ensure continual improvement, safety, and compliance.
  • Provide training and process expertise for product processing in areas such as process development and tooling development.
  • Manage engineering project teams and coordinate activities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and maintenance technicians.
  • Initiate and resolve Quality Incidents and CAPA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with a variety of material testing and measuring methods.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as ANSI/AQL, probability, and statistics.
  • Knowledge of Database software, CAD software, Development software, Internet software, Inventory software, Manufacturing software, Project Management software, Microsoft Excel software, and Microsoft Word software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a GMP, FDA, ISO, and USDA regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with cGMP and ISO 13485 regulations and practices.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis software (Minitab).
