At PENA, engineers quickly become experts in the fundamentals of lithium-ion cell technology and work to integrate that understanding with high-speed, automated manufacturing methods to produce the highest performance and highest quality lithium-ion batteries. As a Manufacturing Engineer II, you will be part of Panasonic's Battery Manufacturing Engineering team, responsible for supporting battery production to ensure our world-class production runs smoothly and without issue. The team continually seeks to improve processes by means of productivity, quality, cost, and other metrics. You will provide engineering support related to daily production activities, working to optimize Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) to increase productivity and reduce defects and losses. Your role will involve troubleshooting real-time production problems, coordinating maintenance activities, and developing permanent countermeasures to common manufacturing issues. In this position, you will monitor and audit manufacturing processes to ensure product specifications and standards are achieved. You will apply your technical knowledge to develop clear and standard work instructions, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides, while also implementing and supporting manufacturing industrial automation. The role may require wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure health and safety in the workplace, which may include a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Responsibilities

  • Support Panasonic's battery production to ensure smooth operations.
  • Optimize Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) to increase productivity and reduce defects.
  • Utilize production data to manage tasks and activities effectively.
  • Troubleshoot real-time production problems to maintain production and reduce defects.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with maintenance teams.
  • Develop permanent countermeasures to common manufacturing problems.
  • Implement and expand new countermeasures into production lines.
  • Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to ensure product specifications are met.
  • Develop clear and standard work instructions, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Implement and support manufacturing industrial automation.

Requirements

  • B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work production shift schedules.
  • Experience in training manufacturing operators on new or revised processes.
  • Flexibility to perform job duties between manufacturing floor and office/desk.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and ability to perform root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge or experience with 3D CAD, mechanical drawings, MPI, P&IDs.
  • Experience in designing fixtures, jigs, brackets, etc.
  • Ability to identify critical process parameters and knowledge of FTA, FMEA.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with control strategy, PLC, and sensor/actuator relationships.
  • Previous experience with Industrial data analysis or Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment (1M+ units per day).
  • Experience working in machine shops and fabricating machine parts.
  • Familiarity with six sigma methodologies and tools.
